The Rathnagiri Nathar temple is situated on a hillock reached by a flight of 1000 steps.
It is considered very auspicious to visit three Shivasthalams (Kadambar Kovil in the morning, Tiruvaatpokki (Ratnagiri) at noon and Tiruveengoimalai in the evening) on Mondays during the Tamil month of Karthigai.
It is also believed that Lord Shiva here is worshipped by lightening once in 12 years.
